Reminder: All Flesh is Grass

Sometimes stuff happens that puts the day-to-day trials of the academic life into perspective …

SO and I were taking our evening walk when we saw our next-door neighbor frantically throwing things in the car — turns out her husband (low 50s) had a heart attack and had been med-evaced via helicopter to the local heart center. He is, thankfully, out of immediate danger. We are now in loco parentis for their house and all their critters.

I guess my post on the latest wrinkle in the job hunt will just have to wait. But it is a good reminder that sometimes the problems we spend our time complaining about are really just inconveniences compared to folks who have real problems.

  1. Epilog: my neighbor is doing fine now. He was very lucky — had a “widow-maker” blockage of the main coronary artery — but was able to get the right care quickly enough to save his life. He is home and doing well.
