Presentation, Plus Fence Repair

(with reverence to Dean Dad)

Woke up this morning …ready for the big day, two classes to teach in two different towns, plus had to give a brown-bag presentation of my upcoming conference paper in the middle.

I’m eating breakfast, and notice that I can see the lights of my neighbor’s house behind us. Hmmm … that’s weird, because I have a six-foot privacy fence between us.

Go out to check, and yep, the fence is completely torn apart. We had a severe storm pass overhead in the wee hours of the night, and looks like we took some 70+ knot wind gusts, which snapped about a dozen 4×4″ fence posts like matchsticks, plus several trees got knocked down. Took me a while to sort through everything, but headed off to (barely) make my morning class.

So, after the day’s academic activities, I had to salvage what I could from the fence and fire up the chain saw to take care of the trees.

This happens all the time around EMU, so no big deal, but it did give me something to break the ice with for my presentation. Fortunately, I didn’t need any gas-powered equipment for the presentation.
